Earlier this week I was approached, by a former mediation client who was so impressed by my ability to help him and his ex-wife after a six year court battle, and asked to participate in a documentary involving 20 married couples in amidst of complicated divorces with child custody issues, division of community property, and with current legal representation. I was asked if I felt that I could assist the couples with finalizing their divorce within 30 days of meeting each of them. My response was YES, provided that the couples agreed to mediate. I'm excited about this project. I've been assisting couples with mediation for several years, but have never had it filmed or documented....I will keep you posted as this project develops. |

It is with the permission of the Silcock Family that I make this post. This week was a first in Laguna Beach Legal history. James Silcock and Ann Belles have adopted 57 children! That's right...57. Of these children 20 are minors and all have disabilities. Jim and Ann have separated and chose to use Laguna Beach Legal to assist them with their divorce. I met with them on Monday of this week and on Friday we were able to finalize the terms of their marital settlement agreement. |

I have been assisting couples with divorce mediation since 1998 and I can tell you...mediation is the only way to resolve your issues. Attorney and court should be the last resort. You can start mediation with a clear idea of what issues need to be discussed, or you can start without any previous plan. A big misconception is that people think they have to hire an attorney and go to court in order to get a divorce. I have completed thousands of divorces with only a Marital Settlement Agreement, which replaces the need to appear in front of a judge. This agreement outlines everything that a judge would normally decide. If you and your spouse haven't reached an agreement, don't worry. I'll help you both and in most cases this can be done in two meetings.
